Chris Sutton slams Rangers ’embarrassment’ Fabio Silva after Old Firm incident v Celtic

Rangers forward Fabio Silva has been labelled an “embarrassment” by Chris Sutton after he was spotted “cheating” in the Gers clash with Celtic.

Philippe Clement’s side completed a remarkable second-half comeback to draw 3-3 with their Glasgow rivals at Ibrox on Sunday (7 April) with goals from James Tavernier, Adballah Sima and Rabbi Matondo salvaging a point.

Tavernier converted from the spot after VAR adjudged that Silva had been brought down in the Hoops’ penalty area, but Sutton was quick to destroy the Gers forward for “throwing himself” to the floor to deceive the officials.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (7 April, 13:11) he said: “He’s been an embarrassment. Kris Boyd touched on it at half time, he’s been an embarrassment throwing himself around all afternoon and it’s really good to see.

“I mean, that’s called cheating and John Beaton is quite right to give him the yellow card. What is he doing, Fabio Silva gold medal diver.”

Will Rangers sign Fabio Silva permanently this summer?

Supporters inside Ibrox would have been just as frustrated by Silva’s performance as the pundits watching on Sky Sports were both in the studio and on the commentary gantry.

It is clear that the Wolves loanee has plenty of technical ability and skill, but he spends far too much time rolling around on the floor trying to deceive officials than he does showing any quality in the final third.

While his dive was rewarded in the second half, most Gers supporters would have been incredibly irritated had the same decision gone against them on Sunday. Silva needs to cut that out of his game if he wants to be a success in Glasgow.

Unless he starts scoring goals on a more regular basis, it is impossible to see how and why Rangers would be willing to pay the money required to sign him from Wolves permanently this summer.

So far he has flattered to deceive at Ibrox and now that Abdallah Sima is fully fit and impressing from the bench, you’d have to imagine he could be facing the axe.
