Rangers: Sam Lammers tipped to complete £1.5m transfer exit by Ibrox insider amid Utrecht update
Rangers will look to strike a £1.5million deal to let Sam Lammers join Utrecht permanently in the summer transfer window, according to Barry Ferguson.
The Dutchman joined the ranks at Ibrox under Michael Beale in the summer but failed to impress in Glasgow, scoring only twice in 31 appearances in all competitions before returning to the Netherlands on loan in January.
Lammers has enjoyed a strong start back in the Eredivisie while Utrecht boss Ron Jans has hinted he would be willing to sign the 26-year-old permanently [Voetbal Primeur, 5 April] and Ibrox insider Ferguson expects the Light Blues to arrange a permanent switch.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (3 April, 1:25:40) he said: “I think Rangers will try to do a deal with Utrecht. It’s one of those ones, that never worked out. He’s gone back to the Dutch league and is performing well, he’s scored in his last three games.
“Rangers paid what £3million? I think they’ll try and recoup at least half of that and I think it would be a good deal for both Sam Lammers and Rangers.”
Will Sam Lammers complete a permanent transfer away from Rangers?
While a number of Beale’s summer signings at Ibrox flattered to deceive in a Light Blue shirt, few players were as poor as Lammers who never looked like he fitted in under Clement no matter his position.
The likes of Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Abdallah Sima may have had slow starts to their careers in Glasgow, but over time they have improved and adapted to become more equipped for the Scottish game. The same can’t be said about Lammers.

It is clear from his form in the Netherlands that the 26-year-old just isn’t equipped to play for one of the two Old Firm clubs and as Ferguson suggested, it would be best for all parties if Lammers completed a permanent exit.
Rangers will be disappointed to take such a big financial hit on the Dutchman only a year after signing him, but if it gets his wage off of the books permanently it may be the price that the Light Blues simply have to pay.
