Rangers: ‘Weird’ Celtic twist emerges as upcoming Gers fixture at risk of being altered
Derek Clark says it “seems a bit weird” that Celtic are stepping in to ensure Dundee can get their upcoming game with Rangers on.
Dundee’s clash with Motherwell this weekend was reported to be under threat due to worries over the Dens Park playing surface.
With the Gers set to visit next Wednesday, a “concern” was raised that the fixture could be altered – whether moved to a different ground or played on a different day.
Speaking on The Rangers Review podcast [5 April, 29m 37s], Clark pointed out a story from The Scotsman [4 April] suggesting Celtic have provided Dundee with some pitch covers.
“Interestingly, it’s reported that Celtic are offering pitch covers to Dundee, which seems a bit weird,” Clark said.
Chris Jack added: “It’s all a bit of a shambles all-round really, isn’t it? We spoke about it after the game that never was, Dundee have to get this issue sorted.
“It’s not acceptable for top-flight football. It’s not acceptable for one club to potentially cause the league so many issues.
“If it’s behind closed doors, Rangers fans rightly won’t be happy about it.”
When Jack raised the suggestion of Dundee potentially having to forfeit the game, which he added was not likely, Clark responded: “Imagine that happened”.
Dundee v Rangers fixture latest
As Jack says, it really is unacceptable that yet another Dundee home game – or two for that matter – is at risk of being called off.
The Dark Blues have already had multiple games postponed this season, most recently the clash with Rangers scheduled for 17 March.
Philippe Clement was furious with that decision given there was no indication the game was at threat until a few hours before kick-off.

If there is one positive this time around, it is that the SPFL are fully aware of the situation.
Dundee sound hopeful that the game with Motherwell will go ahead as planned, which is one less roadblock to navigate before the Rangers game.
If there are any doubts come Monday, though, the SPFL must step in and find an alternative arrangement. If not, and the game is again postponed, it will delay the league split and cause league chiefs one massive headache.
