Rangers ‘concern’ raised over Dundee match at Dens Park amid threat of bad weather

There are “fresh fears” that the rescheduled Dundee versus Rangers fixture could be under threat again, according to the Glasgow Times.

The publication reported on its website on Thursday (4 April) that “concern has grown” over the fixture, which was first postponed on 17 March.

That is due to talk of Dundee potentially having to move their clash with Motherwell this coming weekend if their Dens Park pitch is deemed unplayable.

Due to the Scottish Premiership split, there is no chance of the Rangers game on 10 April being pushed back any further.

In a statement on Thursday (4 April), Dundee said the reports were very much “media speculation” at this point.

Dundee v Rangers could be at risk again

Philippe Clement was fuming after the initial fixture was halted. The Belgian was annoyed not so much at the fact it was called off due to bad weather, but because it was done so at the very last minute.

The Gers squad had already arrived at Dens Park, as had many supporters, but they had to make a swift trip back to Glasgow without a ball being kicked.

What is particularly annoying is that Dundee have had a number of matches postponed on home soil this season. The playing surface is clearly not fit for a Scottish Premiership club.

If the playing surface is deemed unplayable, which will likely be the case if there is heavy rainfall early next week, the SPFL must step in.

League chiefs know they need this game to go ahead, or else it will cause an almighty headache due to the table splitting.

Clement will not care where the game is held if that is the case, so long as there is plenty of warning from Dundee and the SPFL.
