Rangers monitor unfolding Dundee and SPFL drama as neutral venue now mooted

Rangers are said to be keeping tabs on Dundee and their pitch situation as the potential to play at a neutral venue grows, according to The Scottish Sun.

In the coming week, Philippe Clement’s side are set to travel to face the Dark Blues but their pitch has become a concern.

They have a fixture coming up, against Motherwell, prior to the Gers’ visit which will be the litmus test for their playing surface.

In an article on The Scottish Sun’s website, they have suggested that games at The Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park could be moved.

On that, Robert Thomson said: “Dark Blues chief John Nelms has hired covers from Celtic and drafted in help from Burnley and turf specialists in a desperate bid to get two key games on. SunSport revealed yesterday that Saturday’s Premiership clash with Motherwell vital in the race for the top six is under threat.

“Rangers, whose game at Dens fell victim to a waterlogged pitch 12 days ago, are also monitoring the situation ahead of Wednesday’s rearranged clash on Tayside. On another day of surface problems in Dundee, it emerged the club phoned round Premiership rivals to find alternative venues for the Well game.

“It’s believed the fall-back plan if the pitch is still unplayable would be to play at neutral Airdrie on Monday afternoon behind closed doors.”

Will Rangers v Dundee go ahead?

With persistent pitch issues, there is clearly a chance that a neutral ground being used could benefit all sides involved.

Given that Dundee have Motherwell on 6 April and then Rangers on 10 April, there is a quick turnaround needed at Dens Park.

There is potential that the first game of the two is played at Airdrie which provides additional time to have the pitch in better condition.

The Gers take part in an Old Firm just days before their potential clash against Dundee and will be keen to continue their SPFL title charge.

The home side have experts supporting them to help keep their pitch in as good a condition as possible for the double matchweek.

Although it isn’t an ideal scenario for the Motherwell clash to take place at a neutral venue, it may pave the way for the Rangers game to go ahead. It is yet to be confirmed what the plan is for the Dark Blues.
