Troy Deeney shares Rangers v Celtic admission ahead of Old Firm – ‘Number one’

Troy Deeney has named the Old Firm between Rangers and Celtic the best derby in the UK, referring to the atmosphere as “ridiculous”.

In a recent upload to TikTok, the former Watford and Birmingham City striker has compared derbies from up and down the UK.

This list included big names like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham but the Old Firm came out on top.

When the topic of the upcoming fixture came up Deeney was quick to express his positive feelings and want to watch it live.

On that, he said: “That’s number one for me. Rivalry, it’s obviously got religious background. It’s one that doesn’t matter, you have to win when you’re up there.

“The atmosphere is ridiculous as well. I’ve never taken one in but it’s on the bucket list to get up there and see one of those.”

With the news that away fans are to be allowed into games between the two sides in the future, the atmosphere is set to improve once again.

How Rangers can be impacted by Old Firm fans’ return

The need for fan safety to be at the forefront has been there since away fans were banned completely in March 2023 [The Sun].

With the hope that requirements can be met from both clubs in the coming months, 3,000 Rangers fans will be at Parkhead and 2,500 Celtic fans will be at Ibrox from next season onwards.

Given that the fixture has even witnessed reduced away capacity in recent years, this news will be music to fans’ ears.

This will provide an added bite to games which have become quiet in the past year since the away ban.

In the past four fixtures without visiting supporters, The Gers have only won one game with that being a home win in May 2023. This has seen Celtic win the other three, scoring four goals in that time.

This would point towards an upturn in form moving into next year, especially away from home when fans can return to the stands at Celtic Park.

Although the upcoming fixture won’t be affected, supporters can look forward to next campaign and a chance to follow their side away in the derby.
