Rangers: Sam Lammers told to extend Utrecht loan spell after Ibrox exit in winter
Utrecht manager Ron Jans has advised Rangers loanee Sam Lammers to stay on loan in the Netherlands, as opposed to returning to the SPFL.
The Dutch forward made the loan move to the Eredivisie in January and his manager has set his eyes on extending the deal.
Lammers joined the Gers in the summer window of 2023 for £3m [Sky Sports] but was loaned out six months later.
Now in an interview with Dutch magazine Voetbal International Jans has suggested he wants to keep the forward for at least another season.
On that, he said: “From the start, he plays football well and works hard. I also think, just like him, that he didn’t need a run-up here. At the same time, because I really think he is a good striker, I think that if he stays with us for another year, he will then be better off to then try that other step again.
“Stay in the warm bath for a while, I would say. However, there are still many things that neither we nor Sam can control to continue working together next year. That is indeed mainly about two factors. Rangers and money.”
It is clear to see that his manager while on loan is happy with his performances and is hopeful of another season with Lammers.
How good has Rangers loanee Lammers been for Utrecht?
After an expensive transfer for a 26-year-old, the Dutchman certainly didn’t hit the ground running at Ibrox.
In his time with the club so far he has only made 17 appearances where he was able to register just two goals and an assist [FotMob].

This saw Rangers opt for a loan away for the forward and a move back to the Netherlands for the first time since 2020 was on the cards.
He has gone onto play 12 times for Utrecht and he has already scored five goals, an already better return than his time in Glasgow.
His parent side have also witnessed an upturn in form as Phillipe Clement came in as manager to replace Michael Beale.
At the time of writing his side currently sit in second place but with an Old Firm on the horizon, the table could change soon.
There is a chance that Lammers returns to the fold at Rangers next campaign but with him performing well under Jans, a return to Utrecht isn’t off the table.
