Rangers: Sam Lammers issues transfer verdict after what happened

Sam Lammers has hinted at a move away from Rangers after they did not use him in his favoured role at Ibrox.

The Dutch attacker joined Utrecht on loan and has scored four goals and provided three assists in 11 league appearances.

He has primarily played as a number nine for the Dutch side and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Football Scotland [1 April] quoted him as saying: “I played more at No.10 at Rangers. I didn’t actually play a single match there as a striker. At Rangers, I suddenly ended up on the bench and then I didn’t even get on anymore. And then you are suddenly told that you can leave on loan.

“So by then you already know enough. Almost all my stuff is still in Scotland. I was in the Netherlands on holiday when the loan deal went through. I didn’t go back after that. But I don’t need more than some clothes and football boots. Moving back to the Netherlands was not in my plans, but it has been good fun. I can visit the family more easily.”

“We’ve lost only once since I got here. Although things were going well for me and the team before I started scoring, as a striker you feel a little bit better when those goals are scored.

“I really can’t say anything definite about my future, because nothing has been decided yet. The goal now is to reach European football with Utrecht, after that I will look further ahead.”

Sam Lammers should leave Rangers in the summer

Lammers’ stint at Ibrox has been underwhelming, with just two league goals and one assist in 17 games failing to justify his £3million price tag.

His struggles to make an impact in Scotland contrast sharply with his performances since returning to the Eredivisie with Utrecht, where he has already notched up four goals and three assists.

This suggests that the Dutch league is a better fit for Lammers’ style of play and could offer him more opportunities to shine.

Given his lack of success at Gers and his more promising performances back in the Netherlands, it’s clear that Lammers doesn’t have a future at the Scottish club.

The Ibrox outfit would be wise to cash in on him in the summer transfer window, allowing Lammers to pursue a career where he can fulfil his potential more effectively.

It’ll also see them recoup the money they spent on him and perhaps even make a profit that can be spent elsewhere.
