Rangers v Celtic: Brendan Rodgers shares Callum McGregor injury update

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Callum McGregor is in line to return for the Rangers v Celtic Old Firm derby on 7 April.

The 30-year-old has not been in action since 28 February and will be missing the game over the weekend as well.

However, there is a good chance of him being back to take on Gers at Old Trafford.

Rodgers said, via Football Scotland on 29 March: “Callum has been out on the field, but we are not risking him in this game. But he should hopefully re-join training next week.”

When asked if he could return to take on Philippe Clement’s side, he replied: “Yes, a very good chance.”

McGregor’s return boosts Celtic’s chances v Rangers

McGregor’s return for the Old Firm derby would provide a significant boost to the team’s midfield creativity and stability.

As a key player for the Hoops throughout the season, McGregor’s absence in recent matches has been felt deeply, highlighting his importance to the squad.

With 28 league appearances under his belt, the 30-year-old’s experience and leadership on the pitch cannot be understated, especially in high-stakes matches.

Despite only scoring two goals and providing five assists in the league this season, McGregor’s impact extends far beyond mere statistics.

His ability to control the tempo of the game, link up play between defence and attack, and contribute defensively makes him a vital asset for Celtic, particularly in pivotal encounters like the Old Firm derby.

That said, Gers have enough in their ranks to secure the three points in front of their fans and ensure they carve out a decent lead over their arch rivals.
