Rangers doing ‘as much as they can’ to secure John Lundstram contract amid Trabzonspor interest

Rangers will be doing “as much as they can” to tie John Lundstram down to a new contract amid transfer interest from Trabzonspor, according to Jamie Murphy.

The Englishman’s current deal at Ibrox expires at the end of the season and no new contract has been agreed yet, with Turkish side Trabzonspor reportedly waiting in the wings to secure the midfielder’s signature.

While Lundstram’s wages may be an issue, Sky Sports pundit and Ayr United player Murphy believes Philippe Clement needs to keep the 30-year-old in Glasgow to progress in the coming years.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (28 March, 4:50) he said: “I think Rangers will be looking to keep him as much as they can, money and everything comes into it but he’s probably been the standout performer for me since Philippe Clement has come into the club.

“He’s the one that kind of holds the middle of the pitch for Rangers, he lets the others go forward and he does a bit of everything. If you want to improve as Rangers, you want to keep players like John Lundstramn around.”

Will John Lundstram leave Rangers amid Trabzonspor transfer interest?

As Murphy suggested, Lundstram has been a key part of the Gers’ transition under Clement at Ibrox this season and it would be a massive waste if the Light Blues let him leave for nothing come the end of the season.

While several new signings have struggled at Ibrox, the Englishman has regularly been one of Clement’s standout performers and impressed alongside the likes of Jose Cifuentes and Nicolas Raskin who have flattered to deceive this season.

While Lundstram’s wages are understood to be on the more expensive side, he is worth every penny as he is more reliable than any other player in the Gers playing squad currently, barring Jack Butland and James Tavernier.

Hopefully, Trabzonspor’s interest will be nothing more than some initial paper talk and Rangers will agree new terms with the 30-year-old sooner rather than later, otherwise, they could live to regret their decision.
