Rangers: Big league Ridvan Yilmaz transfer update after club who wanted him ‘badly’ snubbed

Ridvan Yilmaz will only be leaving Rangers for a top five European league for an appropriate offer, according to the Daily Record.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked to a move to Galatasaray in January but a source close to him told the paper (26 March) that he has “no interest” in a move to Turkey and is “very happy” in Glasgow.

There have been suggestions that his exit could still go ahead in the summer but while the door hasn’t been shut on a lucrative departure it appears it will only happen on the Light Blues’ terms.

The source said: “Ridvan has no interest in returning to Turkey, he is very happy to be a Rangers player and living in Glasgow. Galatasaray wanted to sign him badly in January but he wasn’t keen.

“If Ridvan makes a move in summer, it will be to one of the top-five European leagues – but only if Rangers get the kind of offer that would tempt them to sell.

“Only then will we discuss it. For now, he is concentrating on helping Rangers to win this season’s two remaining trophies in Scotland.”

Would major transfer offer to tempt Rangers to sell?

Yilmaz staying at Ibrox in January looked to be as much a matter of Galatasaray not coming up with enough money to convince the Light Blues to part with him as anything.

But if he isn’t interested in a return to his home country then it seems that ultimately was never going to happen, although perhaps the potential switch to Hellas Verona in Serie A had more of a chance.

Rangers are said to be minded to keep him at the club now that Borna Barisic is in the process of organising his own departure, which itself is expected to be to Turkey.

But, as with just about any player in the squad, it clearly doesn’t rule out a sale if a club from one of the biggest leagues takes enough of a liking to him to put significant money on the table.

At this stage it seemingly makes most sense to keep him in place as the starter since Barisic is leaving, unless Philippe Clement is convinced potential replacements, whether that be Jefte or another candidate, can hit the ground running.

In other Rangers news, the club could face “danger” of the manager leaving after a “dismal episode” added to issues he doesn’t like.
