Rangers: 'Big money' Ridvan Yilmaz exit could happen as Philippe Clement eyes targets

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Rangers should sell Ridvan Yilmaz in the summer if a "big-money offer" comes in for him, according to Derek Ferguson.

Despite Borna Barisic closing in on an Ibrox departure at the end of the season the former Gers midfielder feels the Turk could follow him to the exit as Philippe Clement will have his eye on other options.

And although Yilmaz has improved significantly over the course of this season Ferguson has suggested that some new breakthroughs from the academy set up could also come into the equation, leaving Rangers to potentially take the money if it is put on the table in the coming months.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “Will he stay on? He’s still a young guy, who knows. But if a big-money offer comes in I think it would be wise to take it. Because I think the manager has got other targets in his sights.

“You never know in this game, if you don’t get those targets then Yilmaz certainly looks the number one.

“But you’re still looking for maybe one or two of the younger boys to come through from the B team.

“You’re hoping that’s going to happen, but Yilmaz, he’s certainly improved big time over the last three or four months.”

Philippe Clement has been tipped to seek an overhaul at left-back for Rangers.

Ridvan Yilmaz tipped to follow Borna Barisic out of Rangers in transfer window

Although the manager is getting more out of Yilmaz than either of his predecessors he appeared willing to let him go amid heavy links to a move to either Italy or Turkey in January.

And with Jefte's belated arrival thought to still be on the cards after his winter move collapsed amid complications with his loan club it may be that Rangers are set for a new look at the position next season.

It might be a risk to jettison Yilmaz just as he appears to have finally come good but if the money is right it could a long way elsewhere.
