Rangers news: Lewis Macleod now back at Ibrox as future update emerges

Rangers announced that former player Lewis Macleod has returned to Ibrox as a coach for the academy side.

The 29-year-old left Ibrox back in 2015 after a decade-long stint at the Glasgow outfit when he joined Brentford.

In 2022, the former central midfielder decided to call it a day and announced his retirement from the professional game.

Via the club’s academy handle, Gers announced on Twitter: “Lewis Macleod has returned to the club as an Academy Coach and is delighted to be back with his boyhood heroes.

“Lewis spoke as he promoted @rfc_rydc, whose donations to the Academy since 2002 have helped players like him progress.”

Macleod’s Rangers return a huge boost for the fans

A versatile midfielder known for his technical ability and intelligent play, Macleod quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox.

Thus, his return to Ibrox will serve as great news for the fans as he’ll be involved with the academy and knows the youth system through and through.

Despite his challenges, Macleod’s return to the club as an Academy Coach signifies a full-circle moment for the 29-year-old.

Having spent a decade at the Glasgow outfit as a player, his experience and understanding of the club’s values and ethos make him an ideal addition to the coaching staff.

Furthermore, his journey from academy prospect to professional player serves as inspiration for young talents aspiring to follow in his footsteps.

Macleod’s return not only strengthens the club’s coaching setup but also reinforces the connection between the first team and the academy, fostering a culture of development and continuity at Rangers.

Gers already have an incredible academy and having him back at the club will only be a positive sign.
