SPFL grant wish for ‘angered’ Rangers as development emerges in newspaper on Thursday morning
Rangers have been granted their wish of playing the re-arranged Dundee fixture after the Old Firm clash with Celtic, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (21 March, page 79) that the Light Blues will play the Dark Blues at Dens Park on Wednesday, 10 April. It is understood that the “angered” Gers wanted the game to be scheduled after they play against Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday, 7 April.
Philippe Clement’s side were supposed to play Dundee in the Scottish Premiership last weekend but the game was postponed less than two hours before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Scottish Daily Mail claim that Dundee face a fine for “persistently breaching rules on pitch maintenance”.
Rangers granted Celtic wish as SPFL make Dens Park decision
It’s extremely annoying for Rangers to have this game rescheduled because it’s led to fixture congestion later on in the season after this international break.
It’s also meant that the Gers have gone into the two-week break off the back of a defeat against Benfica in the Europa League instead of what would have likely been a win at Dens Park to put them back at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Still, the extra rest will help before the face Hibs at Ibrox on 30 March, Celtic at Ibrox on 30 March, Dundee at Dens on 10 April and Ross County at Victoria Park on 14 April before the post-season split fixtures emerge.
But it just isn’t something the club really needed.

Thankfully, the SPFL have seen sense and made sure the rescheduled game is played after the Old Firm because it wouldn’t have been fair to create fixture congestion before it.
