Rangers: Borna Barisic set for ‘one big payday’ after Ibrox exit agreed – Chris Jack

Borna Barisic is coming to the “natural end” of his time at Rangers and looks set for “one big pay day” in Turkey, says Chris Jack.

The journalist said on the Rangers Review Morning Briefing on 20 March that the left-back looks to be in the “final weeks” of his Gers career after it was reported he had agreed to a move to Trabzonspor.

Jack said (3m 5s): “We are in the final weeks of his Rangers career. He’s been a good servant for Rangers, he’s played his part in some big games, he’s played his part in some big disappointments, but he’s not alone in that…

“He’s not leaving with the medal haul that he perhaps should have but I think you could say that about so many of this squad… overall he’s been a great buy and overall he’s been great to deal with and I certainly wish him well for the next stage of his career.

“It’s looking like one big payday. You’d imagine he probably does a couple of years in Turkey and then maybe goes back to Croatia and then time to hang up the boots. You sometimes get a feeling with players that it’s coming time to the end, a natural end, and I think that’s the case with Barisic.”

Ranger set for full-back refresh under Philippe Clement

Barisic has certainly played his part in Glasgow across 230 appearances and counting but a move at this stage looks the right decision.

There is a valid argument that he had done his bit for Rangers in helping deliver the 55th title win and that the club should have actually sold him for a fee before now.

They may have aimed to do that a year ago but it has taken Ridvan Yilmaz an extra season to establish himself, and two manager’s down the line the Turk could still potentially leave himself in the summer.

Jefte is expected, although he also was assumed to be on the way in during the January window, but Philippe Clement has been tipped to have his eye on an overhaul of the position.

Barisic drew attention of the wrong sort in more than one Old Firm derby but has equally been a steady presence a lot of the rest of the time.

He will likely have a role to play between now and his departure to the Turkish Super Lig, and he could yet leave with a treble under his belt.
