Rangers: Ally McCoist gushes over Jack Butland as Scottish Premiership title claim made live on talkSPORT

Ally McCoist has gushed over the form of Rangers star Jack Butland, as he insisted he will play a huge part if Philippe Clement’s side win the SPFL this season.

The Rangers legend could not speak highly enough of the goalkeeper as he insisted he knew he was good, but was stunned by how well he has done since arriving in Glasgow.

Butland’s performances at Ibrox have been so impressive that he has been heavily linked with a return to the England squad under Gareth Southgate.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [14 March, 09:44], McCoist gushed: “Jack Butland is absolutely fantastic. Honest to god, he’s been out of this world. Rangers fans have loved him. I knew he was good, but I’ll tell you what, he’s absolutely excelled.”

Gabby Agbonlahor then asked: “Will he be the reason that Rangers win the league?” as McCoist admitted: “If it happens, he will certainly be a big, big factor in it.”

Could Jack Butland be handed an England call-up?

Butland’s performances since arriving at Ibrox in the summer have been crucial to Rangers’ progress this season both domestically and in Europe, and if he receives an international call, it will be a just reward.

After his performance in the 2-2 Europa League draw against Benfica, Kris Boyd was also full of praise for the shot-stopper, and it was suggested he must be in line for an international call as he proved himself at a higher level than before.

With Gareth Southgate to announce his squad for the upcoming friendlies at 2pm on 14 March, the time has already passed for potential options to impress the boss, with Southgate having already made his decision.

This has come after weeks of speculation surrounding the goalkeeper, who confessed he had met with Gareth Southgate when the squad travelled to Auchenhowie ahead of their friendly clash with Scotland months ago.

Jordan Pickford is most likely to remain England’s number one, leaving the two places as essentially his understudy up for grabs.

In other Rangers news, Clement was shocked by news he heard ahead of Benfica.
