Kris Boyd has raved about Jack Butland live on Sky Sports after his performance for Rangers in the 2-2 Europa League draw with Benfica in Lisbon on 7 March.

The Rangers goalkeeper turned in yet another outstanding performance despite conceding two goals, both of which he could have done nothing about.

Boyd hailed one save he made when faced by Benfica danger-man David Neres as he pushed the ball back out to be blocked by the combination of John Souttar and Connor Goldson.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [7 March, 20:21], Boyd shared: "James Tavernier, there was a bit of space in behind him. David Neres got in behind and got his shot away and it was Butland with a fantastic save.

"He just palmed it back out and between them, Souttar and Goldson were able to block the rebound."

Jack Butland must be named in England squad after Rangers v Benfica

With talk surrounding a possible England call-up in recent weeks, a performance like that will have done no harm to his international ambitions. If Gareth Southgate was watching, he'd be mad not to select the Rangers shot-stopper.

Danny Murphy recently suggested that his performances in the SPFL will not be enough to earn him international recognition due to the level of expectation on any goalkeeper playing for an Old Firm club, so perhaps the Europa League performance will do it.

Having been one of the most consistently impressive players at Ibrox since his arrival in the summer, Butland is finally earning the recognition he deserves from outside of Scotland, and if that culminates in another England cap, he will have earned it.

His performances have been key both domestically and in Europe this season, and with Gers looking to push on and win the SPFL title and go as far as possible in the Europa League, they will continue to be key.
