Rangers: Daily Record score 1/10 for Ross McCausland in player ratings for 2-2 draw v Benfica
Rangers forward Ross McCausland was unable to make an impact in the UEFA Europa League against Benfica.
Philippe Clement’s side drew 2-2 in their Round of 16 clash at the Estadio Da Luz on Thursday night (7 March).
Tom Lawrence got the Gers off to a dream start in the seventh minute when he opened the scoring and after World Cup-winner Angel Di Maria had equalised from the spot in first-half stoppage time, the visitors were back in front just moments later through Dujon Sterling.
However, Rangers couldn’t hold on to their half-time lead as Connor Goldson put the ball in his own net in the 67th minute to help Benfica draw level once again.
Named on the bench, McCausland was introduced late on and despite his limited time on the pitch, the Daily Record has slammed his performance by handing him a 1/10 match rating (page 50, 8 March).
Ross McCausland will hope to make a bigger impact against Benfica at Ibrox
Substitutes who only spend a matter of minutes on the pitch are usually handed an ‘N/A’ due to the little time they have to make an impact.
Therefore the Daily Record’s decision to hand McCausland a score of one suggests that he really underwhelmed during his brief cameo appearance.
As per Sofascore, the 20-year-old only managed one minute off the bench after a recent injury scare and gave the ball away with his one touch of the ball.

It wasn’t the impact he would have liked to make, and McCausland will hope that he can play a bigger part when the two sides meet at Ibrox for the second leg of their Round of 16 tie next Thursday (14 March).
After avoiding defeat in Portugal, Clement and his players will be confident of advancing to the quarter-finals of the Europa League with a victory in front of their own supporters next week.
