Rangers Women: Jo Potter blown away by ‘outstanding’ Mia McAulay in new Ibrox admission
Rangers Women manager Jo Potter has gushed over “outstanding” Ibrox star Mia McAulay for his excellent performance in the Gers’ win over Hibernian.
The Light Blues returned to winning ways after the February international break with an impressive 3-0 win on Sunday (3 March) thanks to a brace from McAulay and a second-half strike from the prolifically Rio Hardy.
Rangers remain four points clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League and Potter has insisted that McAulay and the rest of her team are now ready to progress over the remainder of the season.
As quoted by RangersTV on Sunday (4 March) she said: “I thought she [McAulay] was outstanding. You see the performance and levels that she is producing now, she is starting to really kick on.
“You notice the difference with her when she is pulling up those moments and in front of goal we never have a question. You saw it against Celtic, you saw it again today coming off with a double.
“I think it is big for us that we got players like that can perform, but just as important for me I thought defensively we were excellent.”
Will Rangers Women beat Celtic to the Premier League title this season?
Beating Hibernian could prove to be crucial for Rangers between now and the end of the season as Sunday’s clash could have been a potential banana skin for the Gers given their current injury woes with several big names ruled out.
But the Light Blues have stepped up again and managed to perform when they needed to with an excellent win in Edinburgh, thanks to “outstanding” performances from the likes of McAulay and Hardy.
Rangers’ draw with Celtic and the controversy that surrounded the fixture, left a sour taste in a lot of fans’ mouths over the international break, so it was always going to be important for the Gers to bounce back quickly.
With a return to Edinburgh up next for Potter’s side to face Hibs in the Scottish Cup quarter-final, they’ll be hoping to repeat their exploits on Sunday (10 March) ahead of another Old Firm clash in the Premier League.
