Rangers: Simon Jordan shares Old Firm title verdict in Philippe Clement and Celtic admission

Rangers manager Philippe Clement is “an equal” of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and the Belgian has given the Old Firm title race an added edge, according to Simon Jordan.

The Light Blues currently sit two points above the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership, with both sides losing their last league fixtures as the Gers were beaten by Motherwell and Celtic tasted defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.

While Jordan has admitted he is irritated by Brendan Rodgers, he has admitted that he has been blown away by Clement since he arrived in Glasgow, suggesting he has made him root for Rangers in this year’s title race.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (5 March, 10:08) he said: “I am quietly, without too much partisan rooting for Rangers to win the SPFL. I don’t know why, Brendan irritates me a bit and some of his behaviour at Leicester wasn’t great.

“I like to see Scottish football getting a good profile and two competitive teams from the Old Firm at the top of it, really going neck and neck, making it a championship race, Making it competitive and giving it an edge.

“You’ve got a really good manager in the Rangers dugout now who is an equal of Celtic, from that point of view I have to say, I did snigger by my hand when I saw Celtic getting beat.”

Will Rangers be able to beat Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Premiership title race this season?

The title race in Scotland is incredibly well poised at this moment in time and while Rangers may be the marginal favourites, it would be naive to write of Rodgers’ Hoops as they have been over this course plenty of times before.

Clement’s side have shown that they are capable of beating anybody that they face this season, other than Celtic who they have lost to in both Old Firm meetings this term, one of those defeats was under the management of Michael Beale.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has overseen an excellent turnaround at Rangers.

If the Gers want to beat their Glasgow rivals to the title this season, they have to improve their record in the remaining two Old Firm clashes as those meetings will likely be crucial as this race goes down to the wire.

Hopefully, Clement’s side can do their supporters and Jordan proud and get over the line ahead of Celtic this term, but there is still plenty of football to be played in the Premiership before anyone lifts the title.
