Rangers are in a "good place" to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season, but the title race will go right down to the wire according to Barry Ferguson.

The Light Blues moved within three points of Brendan Rodgers' side with a 3-0 win over Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday (3 February) thanks to goals from Fabio Silva, Rabbi Matondo and Todd Cantwell.

Should Philippe Clement's side win their game in hand on the Hoops by more than two goals, they will move to the top of the table and Ferguson believes the calmness at Ibrox is helping the Gers thrive.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (5 February, 4:30) he said: "I think they're in a good place. I've been open and honest about it in terms of Rangers closing the gap. I really think it is going to go down to the wire I firmly believe it.

"I still think there will be a couple of points dropped, but the big ones are the two Old Firm games. The difference I've seen at Rangers is when it gets to 20, 25, 30 minutes sometimes, there's no noise in the stadium, there's no panic, there's a real calmness.

"That filters onto the pitch and I think that really helps the Rangers team. I think at this moment in time that's a big plus for Rangers players."

Celtic stutter has left title race open for Rangers

When you have a two-horse race for the title, each side will be constantly waiting for the other to slip up to be able to move ahead of their rival and Rangers have been given the perfect opening to take advantage.

The Gers have ridden their luck at times this season. Their performances have not been good enough in this season's Old Firm clashes and they have slipped up previously when they have had the chance to close the gap to Celtic.

However, there is a feeling of confidence and assuredness around Ibrox that hasn't been present for a number of seasons. Pundits are now suggesting that Rangers are in the driving seat and are favourites to lift the Premiership title.

The race will almost certainly go down to the wire as Ferguson has suggested, but at the moment, the Light Blues cannot be ruled out.
