Rangers: Andy Halliday devastated after Motherwell win at Ibrox

Andy Halliday has confessed he was devastated after Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat against Motherwell after people got him mixed up with defender Paul McGinn.

The defender, currently on loan at Motherwell but formerly of Rangers, had people questioning whether it was him who cleared the ball off the line rather than McGinn.

After the shock result at Ibrox, Halliday jokingly fumed at the comparisons, as he was told the commentators also suggested the similarities.

Speaking on the Keeping The Ball On The Ground podcast [4 March], Haliday shared: “People were asking me if it was me and I felt devastated after the game. Getting me mixed up with Paul McGinn? Honestly.”

Rangers’ defeat v Motherwell may have been difficult for Andy Halliday

Yet to make an appearance for his loan club, it is clear where Halliday’s heart and allegiance lie. A boyhood Rangers fan who made over 100 appearances for the club – he surely would have felt a twinge of disappointment following the result.

Several Rangers players have taken criticism following the shock loss, but it will be important for Philippe Clement and his team to rally and switch on as a result, rather than letting it cloud their situation.

Any blow the defeat at Ibrox may have dealt, however, was quickly dismissed by Hearts’ victory against Celtic at Tynecastle, with Brendan Rodgers’ team blowing the chance to leapfrog their Old Firm rivals back into top spot.

Ally McCoist shared his view on the weekend’s football, as he confessed the quality of both teams is questionable, but also admitted that both teams’ inconsistency would make for an entertaining title race.
