Rangers: James Tavernier steps up despite 2-1 loss v Motherwell, his teammates must do more

Rangers missed a huge chance to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table as they lost 2-1 to Motherwell on Saturday (2 March).

It was a shock defeat given the circumstances, with the Gers on a superb run of form and the match taking place at Ibrox.

Making the loss even more disappointing was the fact that Celtic lost 2-0 to Hearts just a day later, meaning the gap between the two remains at two points.

Philippe Clement will, however, only be focusing on matters at Ibrox, with the man in the dugout set to be furious with all of his players after their latest defeat.

Fortunately he still has one star man at his disposal, with Mr Reliable James Tavernier producing yet another top display for the Gers.

James Tavernier shines for Rangers despite shock Motherwell loss

The right-back and captain often single-handedly wins games for the club, with the defender coming close to securing a point this time around.

His 60th-minute penalty levelled the match after Theo Blair gave the visitors an early lead, with Dan Casey then securing a huge win for Motherwell with 15 minutes to go.

Tavernier held his nerve from the spot, but it wasn’t just that moment in which he shone, with the captain impressing in various other areas.

As per Sofascore, the right-back made three clearances and one tackle, a huge six key passes, completed his only dribble attempt (100%), and won all three of his aerial duels (100%).
