Rangers: Ianis Hagi transfer development on cards soon at Ibrox
Derek Ferguson has suggested Ianis Hagi could be set to leave Rangers in the summer as he is unsure whether he would fit into Philippe Clement’s plans.
The Ibrox loanee has struggled for game time at Alaves, having not started since December and making only two appearances in their last seven league games.
Most recently, it was shared by Chris Jack that the chances of Hagi returning to Spain following his loan spell are slim, casting doubt over his future amid plenty of uncertainty.
Ferguson – speaking exclusively to Ibrox News – admitted that Rangers will have a difficult call to make on Hagi’s future despite the talent at his disposal.
“It’s a difficult one, I thought he would have gone there and kicked on, but it’s not quite worked out. I think the reason he left was to go and get minutes under his belt, it’s not happened,” he said.
“Sometimes players, it’s unfortunate at times, they stall and have these moments in their career. I’m not sure he’s Philippe Clement’s type of player, he’s plenty in that department.
“I just hope for the boy it works out because every time he did play for us he gave his all. In terms of a fee, I’m not sure where you’d go for that. you can see the boy’s talented, he’s got a bit about him, he loves the game obviously and sometimes it can be the pressure of his dad.
“I remember watching his dad, he was an incredible player, I think he’s a big influence on him. So I think they’ll be able to sort something out and get him somewhere where he can play and progress and get the best out of himself. I quite liked him but in terms of a fee I haven’t a clue what you’d be looking for.”
Will Ianis Hagi return to Rangers after his loan spell?
Ferguson is right in his claim that any decision made this summer surrounding Hagi’s future will be a difficult one for the Ibrox chiefs to make. There is obviously talent there, but whether he shows it is a different question.
Hagi quickly became a fan-favourite at Ibrox during the 2019-20 season, in the Europa League campaign, especially with that free-kick against Braga sticking in the minds of many of the Ibrox faithful who will hope he can return to that level of form.
However, his difficult spell on loan in Spain has led to the suggestion that that return to form may never come, with patience beginning to wear thin.

His dad has previously detailed his intentions when the loan spell was agreed, saying he will return to Ibrox “twice as good,” although that will now be called into question.
If Rangers can collect a substantial fee for his services, it may be in their best interest to move him on and look to reinvest any money they bring in as a result of the deal.
