Ianis Hagi hopes to impress Rangers boss after 'unique' comments

Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi is hoping to catch the eye of Philippe Clement while out on loan at Alaves in Spain, and the 25-year-old is targeting further trophy success, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper shared via their website on 19 November that Hagi is hopeful of his form catching the eye of the new Gers boss and has set his sights on further success which he is unlikely to achieve with his loan club.

Hagi scored for Romania to send his country to their first European Championships since 2016 with a 2-1 win against Israel on 18 November, as he looks to finally get back to his best form.

As shared by the Daily Record, Hagi told the La Liga podcast: “When you start your football career you want to win trophies. I’ve won five so far and I’m very proud of that.

“To lift a trophy, it’s a unique feeling. You make the supporters happy, and the summer after is much better after winning a trophy.”

The road to redemption

Hagi quickly became a fan-favourite at Ibrox during the 2019-20 season, in the Europa League campaign, especially with that free-kick against Braga sticking in the minds of many of the Ibrox faithful who will hope he can return to that level of form.

A bad injury derailed his spell at the club under Michael Beale as he struggled to get back up to match speed and looked timid in possession in an attempt not to aggravate the injury.

His spell in Spain, though, has seen him rediscover his form, talent and quality, and he will be hoping this can set him up for a return to Ibrox at the end of the season, as his dad detailed his intentions when the loan spell was agreed, saying he will return to Ibrox “twice as good.” [The Herald, 28 August]

The road to becoming a regular player again at Ibrox has begun for Hagi, and the appointment of Clement as the boss to replace Beale with whom he fell out of favour could see a resurgence in his first-team chances upon his return.

In other Rangers news, Kenny Miller has tipped Tom Lawrence to be the new star at Ibrox.
