Rangers: Philippe Clement makes mistake with Ridvan Yilmaz call for Kilmarnock showdown

Rangers manager Philippe Clement may have made a huge mistake by leaving Ridvan Yilmaz out of the Light Blues’ starting XI for their Premiership clash with Kilmarnock.

The Belgian has only made three changes to his starting XI for Wednesday (28 February) night’s clash, with Yilmaz, Cyriel Dessers and Dujon Sterling dropping out of the side in place of Borna Barisic, Fabio Silva and Ross McCausland respectively.

Yilmaz was in inspired form against Hearts last time out and after a January transfer window which saw plenty of speculation around his future, the Turkish fullback has become one of Clement and Rangers’ most important players at Ibrox.

No player completed more dribbles or won more tackles in the clash with Steven Naismith’s side than the 22-year-old who also managed to complete an astonishing 11 passes into the final third to cause havoc at Ibrox.

Can Rangers beat Celtic to the title this season?

While Kilmarnock will almost certainly provide Rangers with one of their tougher domestic tests this season, the Light Blues simply have to win on Wednesday night if they want to maintain their title push and extend their gap to Celtic.

Clement’s side showed against Hearts that they are able to beat any side that they face at this level, no matter their form or ability. Their aim simply has to be to replicate that performance again at Rugby Park.

While all supporters won’t agree with the Belgian’s team selection, he has shown in recent weeks that he isn’t afraid to rest and rotate his squad and while such a system may be unconventional, it has worked for Clement at Ibrox so far.

Hopefully, the Light Blues will be able to continue their impressive exploits in the league and pick up another three points on Wednesday as these sorts of games could prove to be crucial as this title race runs down to the wire.
