Rangers feared ‘Risk’ ahead of women’s game v Celtic – Sky Sports

Rangers have invalidated all tickets purchased by Celtic fans for the upcoming Scottish Women’s Premier League Old Firm match scheduled to take place at Ibrox on Sunday, 18 February.

Sky Sports shared a statement from the club with them fearing that “risk” supporters had got their hands on the tickets for the game.

700 Hoops fans were expected to attend the game but will now not be able to due to security reasons.

Rangers needed to plan better

Rangers’ decision to cancel Celtic’s ticket allocation for the SWPL match at Ibrox stems from a commitment to prioritise the safety of all fans.

With potential security risks identified and the need for a sizable police presence indicated by Police Scotland, Gers opted for caution to ensure a secure environment for spectators, especially considering the unsegregated, family-friendly atmosphere often present at women’s matches.

However, the situation also highlights the necessity for adequate planning and preparation for high-profile fixtures like Old Firm games.

While prioritising safety is commendable, the need for robust policing arrangements should have been anticipated well in advance.

The last-minute realisation of the need for heightened security indicates a lapse in planning, potentially leading to inconvenience and disappointment for supporters.

Hopefully, such incidents do not occur in the future and something will be done about the men’s matches as well as the Old Firm away fans’ crisis has been going on for far too long.

In other Rangers news, a recent £10m claim has emerged directly having long-term consequences Gers and the supporters will certainly be fuming with it.
