Rangers surely a nervous wreck as Fabrizio Romano drops major transfer update to open Ridvan Yilmaz exit door

Rangers could find themselves in a nervous position in the final days of the transfer window after Fabrizio Romano dropped a major £24.7m bombshell.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (26 January), the reliable journalist reports that Bayern Munich have agreed a deal with Galatasaray to complete a deal for full-back Sacha Boey with a medical scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

That has been backed up by Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reporting a deal worth between €28-29m (£23.9-£24.7m) has been agreed between the clubs.

While that deal in isolation has nothing to do with the Ibrox club, it could now unlock the impasse that has occurred all month between the Turkish giants and Rangers in a deal for left-back Ridvan Yilmaz.

Yilmaz has been linked with a move away to Serie A or Turkey for much of the window but has impressed in spite of the speculation and even started the clash with St Mirren on Saturday afternoon after his goal in the midweek win over Hibernian.

The main issue has been that Rangers have reportedly been keen to secure a transfer fee for the 22-year-old, whether it be for a permanent transfer now or in an obligation to buy clause if he left on loan. Galatasaray weren’t willing to do so.

But with the Istanbul club finding themselves with a big chunk of money to spend at the end of the transfer window and a limited time to get the deal done before the deadline, there’s nothing to stop them now paying up.

Rangers have been planning to replace Yilmaz all month but no deal has materialised and his good form has seen him become first-choice under Philippe Clement, despite Borna Barisic being fit again.

Losing him at this stage of the window would surely throw a huge spanner in the works of the plans for the second half of the season, and all of Rangers will be nervously waiting to see what Galatasaray decide to do.
