Rangers progress talks to sell Ridvan Yilmaz as Galatasaray transfer news drops
Galatasaray have made progress to sign Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz on Saturday 27 January, according to Tibet Tore.
The TRT Spor journalist reported via his X account [27 January] that negotiations between the Gers and Galatasaray are now “progressing positively” over a January transfer for the Turkish defender.
The Turkish giants have been long admirers of Yilmaz, with the left-back said to be their only transfer target this month after a bid was made but rejected earlier in the window, as per Mustafa Ozgur Sancar.
Tricky situation
Yilmaz has been on a journey to redemption over the last few weeks at Rangers, following Philippe Clement’s open desire to find a new left-back, and is now one of the most consistent performers.
Even despite reaching a deal for a new defender in Fluminense’s Jefte, as per Fabrizio Romano, there is still a possibility that the 22-year-old could remain at Ibrox this month.
Since signing from Besiktas in July 2022 on a five-year deal, Yilmaz has made 32 appearances, slowly cementing himself as one of the first choices in defence over Borna Barisic.

His recent exerts for Rangers have only helped his cause to stay at the club, assisting a goal in a 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock before firing home the opening goal in a 3-0 win over Hibernian.
It has been a whirlpool of transfer rumours for Rangers and Yilmaz, who could still yet end up staying with his current club but the emerging news would suggest that it is only a matter of time until he departs after just one-and-a-half seasons in Scotland.
