Rangers can blow Hearts out of water after Lawrence Shankland offer twist in January – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that if the best offer on the table wins, Rangers can blow any Hearts offer to Lawrence Shankland out of the window.

The finance expert admitted that if it was a straight fight between Hearts and the Bears to get Shankland to sign on the dotted line, Rangers would win most times.

It comes after updates that the Scotland international had been offered a new contract but wasn’t going to sign it with a move to Ibrox potentially still on the cards before February 1.

“It’s the reality of Scottish football,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“That’s what the other clubs are up against, they know if they are putting in offers but Rangers and Celtic are also looking at those players, at revenue lines of £70-80million, those two clubs compared to the others, it’s a no contest.

That’s not great for the overall picture of the league in that regard, but I think the financial reality is if there is a transfer target there that is wanted by Rangers, then the reality is, the best offer on the table is going to be from the bigger club.

It is then up to the player, of course, where the move goes but if it’s a straight fight between Hearts and Rangers in the market, there is only one winner.”

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off
