Rangers reportedly complete deal to sign Mohamed Diomande amid Ibrox delay

Rangers have reportedly now “completed” the deal to sign Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland, according to TEAMtalk.

In a post on Twitter on Monday night (22 January) the outlet claimed that the second Light Blues signing of the January transfer window is now done, despite his arrival at Ibrox being held up still by travel disruptions caused by Storm Isha.

Chris Jack of Rangers Review had reported the weather obstacle earlier the same day but that the Ivorian’s deal was not in jeopardy as a result, but said a medical still needed to be conducted when he arrived in Glasgow.

However, TEAMtalk’s post said: “RANGERS SIGNING. In addition to a report we brought you on Sunday, Rangers have now completed a deal to sign FC Nordsjælland star Mohamed Diomande…

“The attacking midfielder is supposed to be at Ibrox but his travel has been delayed by Storm Isha.”

Wrapped up?

It is unclear how Rangers have completed this deal without Diomande having yet arrived at Ibrox unless a medical has been conducted satisfactorily elsewhere.

The 22-year-old had been in the US for Nordsjaelland’s training camp, so whether he is still on the other side of the Atlantic or was diverted to an alternative destination in Europe as he attempted to head to Scotland it is possible Rangers have a doctor wherever he now is who was able to carry out the process.

Depending on whether the latest update is in fact premature or not Diomande either is, or will be, the second January addition to Philippe Clement’s squad this month.

Fabio Silva was brought in early on loan from Wolves but the pursuit of a left-back and a striker have as yet not found a resolution.

John Bennett had indicated that Clement would get backing in the transfer market at the recent AGM [Rangers Review, 5 December] but wether it is a lack of budget or availability of the right targets the window is approaching the final week without much business done.

The highly-anticipated push to bring in Lawrence Shankland from Hearts suggests the issue may be the former this month, with substantial money spent by Michael Beale in the previous window.

In other Rangers news, Steven Naismith has issued a new “can’t control anything” Shankland verdict.
