Rangers could foot another bill to seal Mohamed Diomande transfer in January – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers could have footed the whole travel bill to bring Mohamed Diomande to Glasgow from America to seal his January move to Ibrox.
The finance expert admitted that will have been part of the talks with the FC Nordsjaelland midfielder, who has left a training camp across the pond to seal the move.
BT reported on 23 January that Rangers are set to pay £4.5million with potential bonuses to sign Diomande, with the initial cost potentially set to rise here too.
“It’s part of the talks, as always,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“You get the feeling that if a club really wants a player, then part of the negotiation to be had is we’ll play that travel side of things to get you over and sit down properly.
“It can happen both ways, I guess is the simple answer. It does depend on how much the club has got set aside for things like that, how much it budgets for things like that, nowadays I’m sure every club does.

“It’s not unusual that the club could be footing some of that bill or all of that bill, particularly if it’s a transfer the club really want to make because that shows willing on behalf of the club if you’re willing to put your hand in your pocket and fund the travel, then the player knows that this club is really interested.”
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off
