Rangers agree long-term contract with Mohamed Diomande in ‘statement of intent’ January transfer window deal

Mohamed Diamonde will be signing a “long-term contract” when his £4.5million Rangers move is completed, according to Chris Jack.

The journalist reported via Twitter on 23 January that the move will be sealed “soon”, with the FC Nordsjaelland midfielder set to sign a contract at Ibrox for the foreseeable future.

The 22-year-old from Côte d’Ivoire had his arrival delayed by Storm Isha but is set to be a big-money January addition to Philippe Clement’s squad.

Jack wrote: “A £4.5million fee and a long term contract for Diomande at Ibrox. Deal will be completed soon, as we reported on Monday… A statement of intent signing from Rangers.”

Had better be

If the Light Blues are shelling out such a sizeable fee for Diomande there clearly needs to not be any risk of losing him for nothing in the near future, having seen various players depart in the summer on expiring deals.

Although hardly a household name in Scotland it is clear that the club feel that he is someone they can’t miss out on to spend this much midseason.

Central midfield didn’t jump out as an obvious requirement in the January transfer window, but injuries to Ryan Jack are endless, Nico Raskin had been out for some time at the end of 2023, and Jose Cifuentes has not had a great time since his summer arrival.

In addition, Diomande’s ability to play down the left flank may end up being called upon since Abdallah Sima, a star man so far this term, has also been ruled out through injury.

Rangers spent heavily on Sam Lammers, Danilo, and Cyriel Dessers in the summer and have already seen one leave again on loan, another miss most of the season with injury, and the last one flatter to deceive for the most part.

So for this money the pressure will likely be on Diomande to prove more of a clear success over the rest of the season.

In other Rangers news, Clement says another attacker is due to follow Lammers to the exit this month.
