Finance Expert reacts as Rangers make January announcement on Ibrox

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers slightly increasing the capacity of Ibrox each year is a win for the club, with revenue gains to be made.

Rangers confirmed on January 4 that almost 1000 seats will be added ahead of the 2024/25 season, meaning a net-capacity increase of around 600 at Ibrox.

The finance expert admitted that you can start small and keep growing the capacity with plans to put thousands more seats into the famous stadium eventually.

“There is a way that you can start to do that incrementally and build small” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“Even if it’s just an additional 600 seats, but some of those are hospitality as well, you can squeeze a little bit more out of the margin there as they’re going to be paying a premium on your traditional tickets.

There are ways you can do it and incrementally grow, that will come with small wins and windfalls along the way, that can also be part of the strategy to uplift it in the bigger scale of things because if you’re going to invest more into additional seats to take it to 20,000 extra, you’ve got to think about how you keep areas of the stadium in use while you’re doing that as well rather than move elsewhere as an example.

It can be part of the strategy to be able to do that, and you can do it incrementally, it just depends on how the board sees the vision and how long they want to take on these projects to then get a return out of it.

An extra 600 seats with some hospitality thrown in is likely to push the revenue up, and even if that is quite small in relation to the overall finances of the organisation, it’s still extra income in so you’re still winning.”

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off
