Nils Koppen sends Rangers message after January appointment officially confirmed

Nils Koppen has sent a message to Rangers fans after officially arriving as the club’s Directory of Football Recruitment, expressing his pride at starting in his new role.

The Dutchman officially started in his new role at Ibrox on 1 January, arriving from PSV, and has claimed he cannot wait to get to work alongside Philippe Clement.

Koppen’s work has already begun at Ibrox, as he was reportedly heavily involved in bringing Fabio Silva to the club on loan from Wolves in a fast start to the January transfer window. [The Rangers Review, 29 December]

Getting to work already

It has been a fast start to Koppen’s career at Rangers with the Silva deal already completed, and he will now be tasked with assisting Clement in his aim to balance the squad in the January transfer window and set the Ibrox club on course for more silverware.

The boss is hungry for more after winning the Viaplay Cup with a victory against Aberdeen at Hampden Park, and Koppen will be tasked with bringing in players who can assist with those aims.

After the summer’s disastrous window which by all means was a complete failure other than the signings of Jack Butland and Abdallah Sima, the new transfer team will have to prove their worth as the squad already needs moulding.

Rangers

The feeling around Ibrox is that this squad needs more depth, with an injury crisis exposing a lack of quality beyond the first-team squad, with a striker still top of the list despite Silva’s arrival, and wingers also an important aim to provide backups to Sima and Ross McCausland.

In other Rangers news, a star player has announced his return from injury.
