Todd Cantwell named as ‘prime example’ of issue Philippe Clement is facing at Rangers as Celtic fallout continues
Todd Cantwell has been named as a “prime example” of a key issue Philippe Clement is facing at Rangers.
Daily Record writer Gavin Berry suggested supporters see the playmaker as someone who has a mouth “bigger than his heart” as he dissected problems Clement is facing at Rangers in the aftermath of the 2-1 Old Firm defeat to Celtic (30 December).
Berry mentioned how Celtic player Callum McGregor was caught saying Rangers players cannot deal with their “intensity” in a leaked video online, and how it was a damning indictment of the Light Blues’ fight against their fierce rivals.

Namechecking Cantwell specifically, Berry wrote for the Record (1 January): “That kind of comment should be enough to fire the Ibrox dressing room up.
“But Gers fans won’t have any faith that they have it in them. And therein lies the problem. Todd Cantwell is a prime example of someone who has had plenty to say during his time at Ibrox but a section of the fans now see his mouth as bigger than his heart for the fight.”

Harsh to dig out one player
Whether you agree with this or not it feels extremely harsh to be singling out one player here.
Cantwell can be a real game-changer on his day but there are admittedly concerns about his ability to roll up his sleeves and get dirty on the pitch he needs to.
But there are a lot of people who did not come out of the Old Firm defeat with much credit if we are being honest and to focus solely on Cantwell just feels a little unjustified.
Of course, there is one way Cantwell can answer any critics he has and that is by performing on the pitch. There is a golden opportunity for him to do just that when the Gers welcome Kilmarnock to Ibrox on Tuesday (2 January).
The Celtic setback was a huge disappointment but it is not a fatal blow to their title chances. However, they do absolutely need to provide a swift response and show they do indeed have the fight for the task at hand.
In other Rangers news, one player has confirmed their return to training on social media.
