Rangers more than triple brand new cash injection at Ibrox – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers have tripled their cash windfall from the Europa League after their last-gasp win over Real Betis in the final group stage matchday.
The Bears were sitting third at one stage which would have dumped them into the Conference League knockouts, which bring in £300,000, but a late goal from Kemar Roofe saw them win the group instead.
The finance expert shared that winning the group saw Rangers instantly more than triple that to bring in £1.03million and a pass into the final 16 of the Europa League.

“We can roll the numbers through based on the prize money distribution,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“In third place and a Conference League knockout, that would have given them £300,000 for a participation fee, in a knockout round of the Europa League which is second position, that would have been £500,000, the round of 16 qualification for the Europa League which they’ve gained through finishing top is worth €1.2million [£1.03million].
“So, from going from third to first that’s an extra £900,000 which is a decent windfall, it obviously puts them in a better position in the knockout stages, you have that rest period and don’t have to get involved in another round and you potentially have a big tie to come as well.

“When you factor all of that in on the pitch and off the pitch, a really good week for Rangers and it does show the difference that one game can make to the prize money pot because £900,000 is a significant amount of money and that is the difference between that result and finishing third and first.”
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off
