Points deduction threat real at Rangers as official statement emerges – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers had to release a statement with a warning to fans over pyrotechnics after meeting with the SFA previously.
The Ibrox club released an official statement on December 3 admitting sanctions could come their way after meeting with the SFA and Police Scotland.
The finance expert admitted that repeat offences could eventually lead to a points deduction, with initial punishments set to hurt the club financially.

“They’ve got to put that statement out,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“It will hurt the club in the pocket, first and foremost, we’ve seen sanctions for pitch invasions in the English game, and we’ve seen various other sanctions applied throughout the course of history for fan disorder and fan behaviour so in negotiating with the authorities, the club have got to put out a hard statement.
“At the very least, you would be expecting fines if this carried on, but you could be talking points deductions as well and conversations have been had around how do we stop this kind of stuff.

“Ultimately, the points deduction hurts the fans more than the finances of it, so I’m not saying it will get to that stage, but if it carries on and carries on, more sanctions and penalties will become a factor.
“The club have got to put that statement out and at the very least, it’s going to hurt the club in the pocket but you don’t want to run the risk of anything bigger down the line if it carries on.”
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off
