Derek Ferguson ‘raging’ as he blasts Sam Lammers for Rangers footage in win v Hearts

Sam Lammers has been one of the few failed transfers from the Michael Beale era and Rangers’ performance against Hearts on Wednesday night was the final straw for some.

The 26-year-old attacker was dropped to the bench during the Gers’ 1-0 win over the Jambos, coming on in the 88th minute as a substitute to see out the victory.

However, Derek Ferguson was displeased with his actions towards 20-year-old Ross McCausland, who has been a reason for joy over the past few weeks at the club.

Rangers

“McCausland did extremely well, he’s been the shining light,” Ferguson said on the Open Goal podcast on Thursday (7 December), transcribed by Daily Record.

“Lammers came on, he plays a header, I’m watching it and I see him turning and I was quite calm throughout the game and I was raging with that.

“This is a player who’s been constantly giving the ball away, and you’ve got a young boy who’s been different class. And he’s having a go at him?”

“You don’t throw the arms up and point, you go to the younger boy and you have a quiet word to try and help him. I really didn’t like that from Lammers.”

Final nail in the coffin

This really could be the end for Lammers at Ibrox, having made the move from Atalanta during the summer. Despite plenty of experience across Europe, the forward has been a huge disappointment in Scotland.

Rangers

His previous goalscoring record at clubs means his Rangers career comes as no surprise, only managing two goals in 27 appearances across all competitions. There is no way to sugarcoat how poor he has been.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, many will expect Philippe Clement to replace the Dutchman as quickly as possible, with the manager looking to put his mark on the squad since Beale’s departure.

His ability on the pitch is one thing to critique, but is completely out of line to publicly shame a 20-year-old academy graduate, especially one who has been outperforming most of the attacking players in the squad.

Is it jealousy? Potentially. But whatever it is, he may not need to experience it for much longer.
