Chris Sutton reacts to what he doesn’t like about Rangers under Philippe Clement after win v Hearts

Chris Sutton has admitted that he doesn’t like Rangers under Philippe Clement because he has “common sense” in a backhanded compliment to the boss.

The Gers claimed a comfortable 1-0 win over Hearts on Wednesday night at Tynecastle to keep the gap at the top to eight points, meaning they are still unbeaten since Clement took over from Michael Beale in October.

And reacting to the performance while live on Sky Sports (6 December), Sutton admitted he feels there is a title race with Celtic this season because Clement seems to be spot on with his approach.

“I don’t like it because Rangers have got a manager now who seems to just be talking common sense,” he said. “I thought he was spot on about the game. I don’t like it.

“They weren’t at their best but the commitment was there. Hearts didn’t have many opportunities and Rangers were wasteful. 1-0, they should have won far more comfortably than that. They’re heading in the right direction and building momentum under him.

“Celtic haven’t been at their very best. Rangers have to make sure they don’t drop silly point. They did drop silly points at Aberdeen. I think there is a title race on this season, I do.”

Clear

Since Steven Gerrard left the club for Aston Villa, Rangers have had a lot of false dawns with their managers which has allowed Celtic to really push on and create a gap at the top.

But while Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale had a good start to their career at Ibrox, there were always obvious question marks that never got proper answers and ultimately led to their demise.

Rangers

For Clement he has come in and immediately made an impression that he wants to change things, while also getting performances on the pitch for the most part while dealing with huge injury woes too.

Considering how vocal Sutton has been in the past about how he hates Rangers and how much they talk, the fact he has admitted to being a little bit worried by the current regime can only be a good thing.

We don’t need his justification or vindication, but it’s good that Rangers have got rivals worried again after such a short time with Clement so hopefully he can live up to the hype.
