Rangers must find transfer funds quickly – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will need to find funds from somewhere ahead of the upcoming January transfer window with pressure mounting.
John Bennett assured fans at the AGM on Tuesday 5 December that funding for Philippe Clement will be no issue, but the Belgian admitted that he doesn’t expect much to happen.
With pressure growing on a sporting front with Celtic ahead in the Scottish Premiership, the finance expert admitted that funds will be needed as a result at Ibrox.

“There’s always pressure at Rangers,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“That’s the nature of it as we’ve talked about in the past, it then becomes more pressurised as you move through season-to-season, and if you look at the current situation, they’re probably a little behind where they wanted to be in terms of league position.
“We know it’s going to be them or Celtic, but the gap is probably bigger than they wanted at this moment in time, they’ve had the disappointment of the early stage of Europe this season, but they’ve got a good position to build on in the Europa League.
“We have spoken in depth about how important it is for Rangers to keep being in those Champions League qualification spots, whether it gets them straight into the group stages or the qualifiers, that is the absolute aim for Rangers given the finances of Scottish football more broadly.

“That then creates the pressure in January, if you are on track for that, need to sustain that or you need to try and achieve that, so I think it’s part and parcel of Rangers, but the financial aspect of that is you have to put the funds in or find them from somewhere and that’s the trade-off between sporting and financial performance.
“You will never have it any other way at Rangers given the expectations they set themselves.”
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off
