Derek Clark slams ‘nonsensical’ Ross McCausland decision in Rangers win v Livingston

Journalist Derek Clark has question the “nonsensical” decision that denied Ross McCausland his first Rangers goal in the 2-0 win at Livingston.

The Gers eased to victory at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday (12 November) thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier.

VAR was heavily involved in West Lothian, with McCausland’s strike in the first half being ruled out by by referee Steven MacLean.

Speaking on the Rangers Review podcast on Monday [13 November, 3m 7s], Clark said: “Ross McCausland was rightly named Man of the March.

“He was really unlucky not to get his first Rangers goal. I thought it was hugely unfortunate to be ruled out for an apparent Abdallah Sima push, which seemed nonsensical to me.”

Impressive

McCausland took the opportunity brilliantly with a powerful drive into the top-right corner, shortly after Dessers had opened the scoring.

However, VAR intervened and the goal was eventually ruled out for Sima’s infringement, although replays were inconclusive at best.

Indeed, if anything, it could be argued that Sima was being dragged by the Livingston defender – it was a classic case of six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Even without a goal to his name, it was still an impressive performance from McCausland, who the Gers are hopeful of tying down to a new deal.

In fact, it was a good day all around for everyone involved as Rangers got the job done to keep their great form going under Philippe Clement.

After impressing on this first league start, McCausland may well now become a regular under Clement out on the right.

On the basis of what we have seen so far, the youngster will not have to wait much longer for that first goal.

In other Rangers news, a BBC Sport pundit was left fuming live on air by a decision made relating to the Gers last week.
