James Bisgrove makes Rangers look stupid again as Sam Jewell news drops in last 24 hours

Rangers want a new director of football or technical director, and they’ve made absolutely no secret of that whenever they’ve been asked.

James Bisgrove went as far as to say there were “live talks” ongoing currently and that an appointment was “imminent” during Philippe Clement’s recent press conference unveiling at Ibrox earlier this week.

It’s been widely reported that the man they want to fill that vacancy is Brighton’s current Head of Recruitment Sam Jewell, but there are question marks about it now.

Reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Ibrox club had made a formal approach to the Premier League club about taking their man up north the Glasgow.

It wasn’t long before Rangers rejected those claims though, denying it through official club partners without publicly commenting on the matter themselves through any official channels.

But it’s now been revealed on Friday (20 October) that Jewell was in fact approached for the job of technical director, with The Athletic reporting that he has turned down the chance to move as he is happy at Brighton.

While that isn’t a problem and most people would have probably expected that to happen when he was first linked, the fact the club have denied even making an approach is just embarrassing.

It’s clear that he was a prime target and because we’ve been unsuccessful, we’re now doing that famous thing where we say, ‘we didn’t want him anyway’.

If Bisgrove and the club are willing to lie about something as simple as this, and so brazenly, then what else are they lying about? Are talks live? Is an appointment “imminent”? Why should we trust anything he says now?

Rangers now look stupid for pretending they had no interest in a man who has no interest in joining us and everyone knows we failed to convince.

It’s another in the long line of stupid decisions made by Rangers in recent years to further diminish our reputation as a great and serious football club.
