Substantial payout on cards at Rangers after Philippe Clement appointment – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will have tabled a significant deal to Philippe Clement and his staff following his appointment at Ibrox.

It comes after Het Nieuwsblad reported that the Belgian had rejected a £13million contract offer from Saudi club Al Shabab in favour of Ibrox.

The finance expert admitted his deal at Rangers won’t likely be on that inflated level, but a big package has been suggested following the compensation to get rid of Michael Beale and his team from John Bennett and the board.

“You would imagine it’s a fairly good deal,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“It may not be as much as the Saudi deal he was offered, as we know the inflation aspect of the Saudi market at the minute in terms of transfer fees, contracts and wages.

You would imagine still that there is a substantial deal on the table from Rangers that’s attracted the manager.

It will come at a cost given the nature of the managerial merry-go-round, it’s quick turnover a lot of the time and that involves compensation fees out and big packages coming in.

Again, it’s the nature of the situation, particularly with Rangers and their standing in Scottish football and the way in which they started the season.

You have to make those big decisions, and you know they come at a big cost, but it was a decision that Rangers felt they needed to take and that is the nature of the beast, particularly in managerial appointments that you have to do that sometimes despite the cost.”

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
