Finance Expert reacts to interim Rangers appointment as manager hunt heats up

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will have faced contractual obligations to appoint Steven Davis and his team in interim charge of the club following the sacking of Michael Beale.

The finance expert admitted contracts will need to have been signed with a financial element that we may never see released to the public on top of that.

Davis will take charge of the Europa League clash with Aris Limassol on Thursday 05 October and likely the St Mirren showdown before the international break.

“It really does vary depending on how the club wants to operate,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“There are contractual obligations and things that need to be signed, but there is no real template for how these interim structures can work and that then purely becomes a decision of the board, and the way they want to manage that period.

Some would do it on a rolling basis, some would do it on a fixed-term basis where they put a period of months on it, others may do things slightly differently.

We may never see those details from the outside looking in, we know there is a cost element to all of that which has to be dealt with in the financial side of the business, but it really does depend on the club, there is no kind of tried and tested template for these interim placements.”

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
