Kjetil Knutsen ‘under consideration’ for Rangers manager job after Michael Beale sack

Kjetil Knutsen is likely to be “under consideration” for the Rangers manager job after Michael Beale was sacked, reports Rory Smith.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club (2 October), the New York Times journalist was asked about the vacant job at Ibrox and named the Bodo/Glimt manager as a potential candidate.

Smith believes that the Norwegian is the “right sort of profile” for the job, but feels the step up from the Europa Conference League side to Rangers could be too big and see him ruled out of the running.

“I think [Kjetil] Knutsen is someone who they think could be under consideration because it’s the right sort of profile,” he said.

“I don’t think it’ll be Knutsen, I think it’s a massive leap from Bodo/Glimt to Rangers.”

Can’t get it wrong

Rangers got the appointment of Steven Gerrard right a few years ago, and we saw great levels of success and he left while on top before his career fell off a cliff.

But at the same times Rangers have struggled to maintain their level since he left, and we’re now onto a fourth manager in three years which sums up our issues.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst got us cup success but he never really seemed like the right man in the dugout at Ibrox, and Beale was an emotional appointment rather than a logical one that didn’t work out immediately.

We are now in a position where we simply cannot afford to get the next appointment wrong, and if there are any doubts about a candidate like Knutsen then they simply have to be ruled out.

The club have said they’re going to take their time to make the appointment so there should be no excuses. The next man through the door has to be the one to deliver 56 and beyond.
