Rangers: Journalist left perplexed by Michael Beale decision as ‘serious’ Rabbi Matondo injury verdict shared
Derek Clark was left perplexed at why Rabbi Matondo was allowed to play on for Rangers after suffering an injury in the win over Motherwell on Sunday (24 September).
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel on Monday (25 September), the journalist said the decision should have been taken out of the Welsh international’s hands.
He added that the 23-year-old forward could have done “serious damage” to himself after Michael Beale allowed him to return to the field before he was eventually replaced by John Souttar on 38 minutes.
“For me, the decision had to be taken out of his hands and taken off, especially if it’s a knee issue,” said Clark.
“Allowing him to play on could have done some serious damage to him, so I’m a bit perplexed why he was allowed to play on. It looks like he’s going to be out for some considerable length of time.”
Strange
It was a strange decision to allow Matondo to go back out onto the field when it was very clear that he wasn’t right to continue playing.
It looked like only being a matter of time before the Welshman was eventually substituted and that proved to be the case pretty quickly as he was substituted by Souttar.
Although it was in a bid to try and add more stability at the back and protect the lead, the move to bring on the centre-half was pretty negative with such a long time left in the game.

It also shows how the Gers are really lacking in forward options as Beale didn’t want to have to play one of his other attackers with the games coming up thick and fast.
They are now going to be even weaker following yet another injury to a forward player, with the club nervously waiting to find out how bad Matondo’s problem is.
In other Rangers news, the club are considering sanctioning the loan exit of one player.
