Rangers must weigh up cost of Michael Beale sack before decision – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers must weigh up any compensation cost before potentially sacking Micheal Beale, with it not set to be cheap.

After missing out on the Champions League and losing the first Old Firm of the season, Beale was under severe pressure but wins over St Johnstone and Real Betis have since lowered that.

The finance expert admitted that Rangers spent a lot to bring Beale to Ibrox in the first place, with a sack decision only set to increase any payments to the manager down the line.

“You’ve got to weigh up the cost of the benefits,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“You’ve brought a manager in for a significant amount of money so you have the total package cost, the wages to go alongside that, so if you terminate early, you probably have a compensation fee to pay.

We never see those compensation fees in terms of the value as it is all done behind closed doors which is fine, but there is a cost there to that.

That is where as a club you are weighing up that decision, and of course, that spills into one pitch, of course it does because the revenue generation possibilities of qualifying for the Champions League or not, getting through the Europa League group stages or not, pushing for the title in Scotland or not, will have an impact on finances.

You have to weigh that up, but it’s not cheap to sack a manager.”

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
