Chris Sutton delivers Michael Beale verdict as Rangers lose to PSV and Celtic

Chris Sutton believes that both Michael Beale and Brendan Rodgers would’ve been under pressure if the Rangers v Celtic game had not ended up in their favour.

However, the pressure was more on the Gers boss given the humiliation suffered at the hands of PSV in the Champions League qualifiers.

After losing the first game of the season, Beale couldn’t afford a loss in the Old Firm, but that’s precisely what happened.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sutton said, “It was a problem for Michael Beale. Whichever manager lost the game, it was going to be an issue. More so for Michael Beale, I think, given the nature of them going out of the Champions League, absolutely smashed by PSV.

“And [he] brought in a lot of players who haven’t quite clicked in this moment in time and Celtic have a lot of players to come back in, a lot of injury problems.”

A change is needed at Ibrox one way or another post the international break at Ibrox and it needs to happen quickly.

Either a change of the manager, which seems unlikely, given the faith shown by the board, but a change in the way the team plays is important.

Rangers

Right now, it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly is the manager’s playing philosophy or identity.

It just seems like eleven players are being put out and not all of the new signings seem like they’re good enough to start week in and week out.

Sutton is usually partisan when it comes to his assessment of Rangers, but this is a brutally honest verdict and Beale’s definitely got to feel the pressure.
