Kris Boyd slams ‘absolutely shocking’ decision in Rangers v Celtic, ‘incredible’ claim made

Pundit Kris Boyd has slammed referee Don Robertson for ruling out Kemar Roofe’s early goal for Rangers against Celtic.

The Gers striker slammed the ball home in the 28th minute of the match at Ibrox on Sunday (3 September) following a pass from Cyriel Dessers.

But after a VAR review, the goal was ruled out as Dessers was adjudged to have fouled Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke in the build-up.

“I don’t think it needs clearing up,” Boyd said live on Sky Sports Main Event (12.55pm, 3 September). “It’s an absolutely shocking decision to be honest.

“You can see that Lagerbielke kicks the back of Dessers’ foot. We want to see more goals, we want to see more entertainment. That there is a goal. How that can be brought back for a foul is incredible.

“Don Robertson has got to be stronger when he goes to check the VAR. He’s made a decision on field.”

Controversial moment

It was a very controversial moment in the huge clash between the two rivals at Ibrox, with such moments often deciding this fixture.

Roofe was convinced that he had given the home side a 1-0 lead midway through the first-half, but it wasn’t meant to be, much to his disappointment.

The Rangers faithful were dismayed at the decision, as was former striker Miller, who thought Dessers had won the ball fairly.

The decision is certain to divide opinion in the weeks to come, but Celtic fans will not be complaining at all, especially given that Kyogo Furuhashi then put the Bhoys ahead before the half-time whistle.

Gers boss Michael Beale certainly had a tough task on his hands when delivering his half-time team talk after what happened in the first 45 minutes.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers meanwhile will have been delighted to shut down the noisy home supporters after their optimism early on in the game.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have won a legal battle as overseas news emerges, an appeal can happen.
